ADEBANJI

8x8" Acrylic on Canvas
This portrait is of Adebanji -An artist living in London whose motto is to Be Inspired. Inspiring he is. He is compassionate and motivated. You see it in his art and his sketches. He loves to capture the human expression and those fleeting moments most of us overlook. He has greatly Sharpened my skills. I have no doubt he will will be painting portraits of Royalty.

Now this is scary cos I haven't seen myself this clear, for along time!

I LOVE IT!

I hope I'll be able to get a direct exchange when I complete yours! Or if not something must happen!

Wow!! There is something about my person you captured here, I don't know what it is but I breathe in this piece!

When I finish yours I'll be posting this one and yours on my blog, hope this is fine!

How did you know my motto was "Be inspired"?

I just checked the scriptural references and my heart beats in oneness with yours on this!

You are bringing deep emotions here, a tear or two....

Adebanji, I am so pleased and honored that you want the portrait I painted. I honestly don't need any more portraits of myself, but I would like to see you do something creative with one of the photos I sent you. I'd like to use this piece for a competition later on in the year, but don't worry it is reserved for you. I would very much like to do a trade. "The Hangover" is what I'd like to swap you for. If you can put that aside for me until then... You've got a deal.

Also the background color is more of a cranberry grape and not the maroon that you see. I am learning to use my new upgraded digital camera and I am still learning how to use it.

Dana, Thank you!

Alice,

You're amazing. I love your "artist series". You work so fast and capture things so well. How the world must look through your eyes.

You are welcome Alice, thanks for honouring the direct exchange, but it seems you say you really want another self portrait..........
Awwhhhhhhhhhh Alice...We are never seem comfortable with too much of ourselves, I have almost given up on self portraits cos I never get my resemblance. But I have noticed it is not all about the likeness but the uncomfortable process of getting one done that matters.

I won't be able to do a deal on "hangover". I will stick to the initial terms. Hope this is fine, I hope I won't bite my tongue cos your piece will be something to look forward too. Not the usual self portrait..cos I see so much in your picture....lets wait and see!

Adebanji, "The Hangover" is as I said in your blog a magical painting. I fully understand why you don't want to do the deal. I wouldn't either. Believe me I've got a lot of self portraits hidden and out of display.- I don't want another one. I will send you the direct purchase cost for this piece if it is still available after the competition is over. It is a long time away.
It is hard for me to let go of my paintings too!

MEB,

Hello my friend. An Artist Series is a brilliant idea! It seems like I work fast but I paint from the time I wake up until I go to bed. There is easily over 40 hours of labor in a 8x8". Studying, Correcting, Looking, Adjusting, then finding that Magic. I've been painting portraits for almost 20 years now so I've gotten much faster at it...and better I hope ; )

Ok Alice, you've left me short of words.........But you are right!

There must be a price to a masterpiece!

Patience wins at the end of the day!

Lets see how this unfolds.........

Alice, another remarkable painting. You have done an absolutely beautiful job of creating life with paint. It is easy to understand how moved Adebanji was by this portrait. We will all miss you very much and I hope your travels are safe and rewarding.

What a beautiful portrait! I feel a determined yet gentle and caring personality in the painting. Alice you have captured his beautiful soul in this canvas.
I also think "Artist Series" is a great idea!

Adebanji,

"There must be a price to a masterpiece!"

I love that phrase! Talk about excitement!!! it is evident in your words. I have not heard it before but I will be thinking it out loud from now on.

You know Adebanji I've always viewed the lives of people who have died in the flesh and been reborn as a masterpiece in progress... and you are so right, a price had to be paid!

Remember I'm not as 'tuff' as I sound. I have a passion for collecting almost as much as you do for sketching.

Patience is a virtue..... but it is actually persistence that wins at the end of the day. Luke 11:8

Only time will tell.....

Dominique, I will miss your crazy insightful thoughts. Remember we've got to plan some type of artist group retreat in Europe in the future... maybe we'll even visit Adebanji and do some sketching with him!

Alice Thompson said...

Vern, I will miss everyone as well. 6 months of DSFDF is a lot of new work from you for me to comment on when I return.

Alice Thompson said...

Akiko, Goodbye my loyal friend!
Adebanji is a Beautiful Soul.

I'll work on the Artist Series idea. I'm thinking of painting 10 more people and making a calender.
Just kidding... maybe not.

adebanji said...

I am going to miss you dearly, I have sent/posted your drawing, hope you'll be able to receive it before you go.

Please let me know immediately you get it!

Akiko did a stunning portrait of you!

We shall all meet one day!

I fully understand your comments and never will I feel you are tuff!
I love the idea of the artist series too, and I'll try my hands on it too!

We shall have a blessed year!

OK..OK ... After re-reading what I wrote I do write funny and backwards. It has to be the mix of french & english in my brain.
But seriously where are you going and what will you be doing ?? for 6 months without paints or computer !
I think we are all dying to know.
I really like the idea of an artist retreat in England or France with everybody. We could rent a house somewhere for a week or 2. Something to save for : )

dominique eichi said...

Yes, you are so right Determination and Boldness wins in the end !
If ever you needed an other picture for the artist series let me know.
We will hear from you around June/July

Wow Alice, this portrait DOES have life and substance. And I also added Adebanji to my list of blogs I will follow. I love his work, I love the artist passion you both have because I can't get enough of it.

Mom left early this morning. Am I going to be able to send your portrait to you when it's dry? No I haven't even started it. I'm of course trying to chase the DSDF deadline, but I plan to finish them both (you and my charge, maybe even Akiko's) by Wednesday. We'll see if the odds are with me... You simply can't be absent for 6 months? Where are you going that you won't have access to Facebook? Are you seriously going to put me on a strict diet (from your presence)??

Alice Thompson said...

Adebanji, Thank you so much, I'm sure I won't be here so see the piece I purchased from your Afro Series, but don't worry someone will be here to make sure it is kept safe until I return.

Dominique, My wireless signal on my laptop will not be available where I am going but I should manage to connect to a landline computer from time to time.
Renting the house in France/Europe for a week or two is a fantastic idea. I will email you when I get back!

Erika, You are not suppose to be painting a portrait for me. That photo is for you to make a painting for profit later on. I am not doing any more portrait swaps- Akiko got me good! Those Japanese are so smart at business! Thank you for the Card! it was funny ; )

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

NOW GO AND PAINT A MASTERPIECE TO REMEMBER!!!!!!!!

I love doing these miniature paintings. They are 4x4x1.25". The combination of metallic paint and mixed media really make these feel more like jeweled ornaments than fine art.

Kyoto Girls

Kyoto Girls
I took the liberty of making a lively and fun background behind these ladies who were walking down a street in Kyoto. The faces remind me of small porcelain dolls. If you look closely you'll notice that three of the ladies have highlighted hair to add a modern twist to the traditional attire.

Ocean Day

Ocean Day
6x6" Acrrylic on Canvas Panel This painting was inspired by a young Japanese couple stopping to check out the menu selection. I like the glow of the lights with paper sea creatures hanging in the window. This piece has a fantastic warmth when you view it. Very refreshing after painting so many graveyard scenes. I also purposely simplified certain details to create an overall impression. This restaurant is located in Asakusa near Tokyo.

Late Bloomer

Late Bloomer
8x8' Acrylic on Canvas. The tree is Plumeria and gives off a beautiful floral fragrance. The flowers from these special trees are often used to string Aloha Leis.

Rose

Rose
8x8" Acrylic on Archival Canvas. I really love this painting. I find great comfort when I see this piece. If you look closely there is a slight figure in the upper right hand corner in the trees. Do you see it? It's a joy to have spooky things happen by chance. I did a geneolgy search on Rose Roque and found perhaps her granddaughter that lived in Hawaii from 1916-1984. I wonder if Rose came to Hawaii as a missonary... her name is not common for Hawaii, and the beautifully carved marble headstone would suggest she was a prominent woman in the community. This is Alae cemetary located in Papaiko, Big Island Hawaii.

Remember

Remember
Acrylic on canas 6x6". I titled this painting Remember for the loved ones who took the time to haul lava stones to make a caring marker for this grave. This family may not have had enough money for a carved tombstone but they indeed showed that they would Remember

Mauna Kea Moon

Mauna Kea Moon
6x6" Acrylic on Canvas. This area is located in Waikoloa Hawaii on the Fairway. In the background is the Moon rising over Mauna Kea mountain currently dormant and world famous for its numerous telescopes atop the worlds tallest mountain.

In Time

In Time
This burial location reminds me of a fortified castle. This cemetary known as Alae has a number of overturned, sunken and shifting gravesites due to rainfall and earthquakes over the course of time. This person was aptly prepared like a soldier with his armor.

Sunlit Forest

Sunlit Forest
Acrylic 8x8" This beautiful forrest is located in Hawaii on the way to Hilo. Since childhood I can recall being mesmerized by endless rows of forest while looking out the passenger window. Nothing has changed.
